UA Celebrates Grand Opening of Television Station — The College of Communication and Information Sciences debuts its newly acquired television station, WVUA 7. UA is only the second public university in the country to own and operate a commercial television station that integrates student teaching into the daily operation of the station.

UA Engineering College Ranks Fourth in Country in Percent of African-American Enrollment — The Engineering Workforce Commission of the American Association of Engineering Societies ranks the UA College of Engineering fourth in the nation among traditionally white institutions in the percentage of African-Americans enrolled.

UA Professor Helps Dying Patients, Families Manage Stress — Dr. Rebecca Allen, an assistant professor of psychology and associate director of the University's Applied Gerontology Program, has begun a five-year project, sponsored by the National Institute on Aging, to evaluate the benefits of therapeutic support for caregivers of hospice clients.

UA Business School Offers Business Execs Program to Help Cope with Today's Turbulent Economy — The Executive Leadership Series, a program introduced by the UA Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, presents a series of three-day seminars led by C&BA faculty to help business executives cope with today's turbulent economy.

UA Law School Holds Informational Session to Debate Constitutional Reform — A debate and open forum on Alabama Constitutional reform at the UA School of Law feature R. Sidney McAnnally of the Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform and Gary Palmer, the president of Alabama Policy Institute.

UA Students Sponsor Mentoring, College-Prep Program at Local High School — The UA Student Government Association is providing a mentoring program at Central High School's East Campus in Tuscaloosa. Through the program, UA students help teenagers with the tough decisions they must make during high school.
