UA Student Newspaper Named Finalist for Top College Award — The UA student newspaper, the Crimson White, has been named one of 11 finalists for the Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper Pacemaker award. The Pacemaker award is the nation's top student press general excellence award.
UA Student Web Site Wins Top Honors in National Competition — Dateline Alabama, the UA student-run news Web site in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, won top national honors at the Society of Professional Journalists competition, which recognizes the best in college print, broadcast and online journalism. Dateline Alabama's coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America last year captured first place.
Web-Based Readings, Online Essays Highlight New Approach to Freshman Comp — Some 600 UA freshmen are enrolled in a freshman composition course that includes Web-based readings, online essays and multi-media materials.
UA McNair Scholars Program Holds Research Conference — UA students in the McNair Scholars Program presented the results of their research projects at the third annual Research Conference.
UA Professor Hopes to Better Understand Fate of Universe Through Research at National Lab — Dr. Ion Stancu, assistant professor of physics, is among collaborating scientists announcing that a new detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has recorded its first neutrino events, which may provide important data about unseen matter in the universe.
Annual Retailing Day Focuses on Ethics in Retailing — Co-sponsored by UA and the Alabama Retail Association, this year's annual Retailing Day program, a venue for the Alabama Retailer of the Year Awards, opens with a session on "Leadership, Ethics and Social Responsibility in Retailing," presented by Andy Wilson, chief operating officer of Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics.
Constitutional Reform Seminar to be Held on UA Campus — Dr. Bailey Thomson, associate professor of journalism at The University of Alabama, holds an open seminar on Alabama constitutional reform, discussing how to make informed decisions about what to change in, and how to change, the state's constitution.
